The Jacksboro City Council meets for regular meetings on the second and fourth Tuesday of every month in the Council Chambers at City Hall, 112 West Belknap, at 5:30 p.m.

1. How can I become a vendor for the City?

Submit a Request for Vendor Information to the Director of Finance. Submit the online form, fax it to us at (940) 567-5133, or mail it to 112 West Belknap, Jacksboro, Texas, 76458.

2. What is the sales tax rate for the city?

The sales and use tax for the city is 8.25%. The State of Texas receives 6.25% and the City receives 2% of this tax. The proceeds from the City's portion of this tax are used to support the general operations of the city. Specifically, 1.75% of this tax is deposited in the General Fund of the city and the remaining .25% is governed by a non-profit economic development corporation designed to make infrastructure improvements to attract economic activity to the community (established pursuant to Section 4B of the Texas Development Corporation Act of 1979).

1. What do I do if I just received a citation?

Your citation will be filed in the court within 2-4 days. You may call the court for general information at (940) 567-6321, but you must make an appearance in person, by mail, or by phone to take care of the citation. The Municipal Court is located at:

2. What is the process to pay for a citation?

You may:

• Mail your payment along with a legible copy of your driver’s license or ID to City Hall


• Place your payment in the night drop on the west side of City Hall

3. When and how must I appear to take care of my ticket?

You must appear on or before the date on the ticket. You may appear in person, by mail, or by attorney at City Hall located at:

If you fail to make your appearance within the time allowed on the ticket (court date), a warrant may be issued for your arrest.

4. When can I find out how much my citation is?

Citations are normally filed within three business days. After that time frame you may inquire about your citation.

5. Can I take care of my spouse's ticket?

No, only the person who received the citation or his/her attorney may enter a plea. However, once the plea has been made, anyone may make the payment.

6. Where does the money from my payment go?

Your payment is distributed to separate fees and costs. The fine portion, as well as, part of the costs is deposited in the city’s general fund. The fees are sent to the state and distributed into different funds such as the state traffic fund, child safety fund, judicial support fee, and the consolidated fee.

7. What does FMFR mean?

FMFR stands for failure to maintain proof of financial responsibility. Most individuals carry liability insurance as their proof of financial responsibility.

8. How long will a traffic offense stay on my record?

A conviction for a traffic offense stays on your record permanently; however, insurance companies may only go back three years on your history.

9. Do I have to have an appointment to see the judge?

Yes. The judge is only in the office on scheduled court dates.

13. What is deferred disposition?

Deferred disposition, when requested, is a means of having a violation dismissed. If granted by the judge, you may be placed on deferred for a period of time set by the judge and will have specific terms or conditions set by the judge. If you have complied with the terms, your case will be dismissed.

14. Can I take a driver safety course to get my ticket dismissed?

If eligible, you must pay a fee and request to take a driver safety course to keep a ticket off your record.

Utility Billing & Collections

1. What do I have to do to get water service?

To establish a water account we ask that you come to the Utility Billing office located at 112 West Belknap, to complete an application for water service. All new residential accounts are subject to a deposit, $100 for residential accounts and $200 fpr commercial accounts, this amount may vary based upon past payment history. In addition, the city requires that before opening accounts we must have a copy a photo ID.
